Höyrytys supplies auxiliary boiler to Jyväskylän Voima’s Keljonlahti power plant as a turnkey project

Höyrytys has delivered a Zander & Ingeström steam-electric-electrode boiler to Jyväskylän Voima’s Keljonlahti power plant as an auxiliary boiler for starting up the power plant. The turnkey delivery also included a pressurised feedwater tank with a degassing tower and chemical feed. The auxiliary boiler operates on electricity taken from the grid.

The starter boiler is used for a total of approximately 40-50 hours each year.

“It is in operation for a day at a time, producing the necessary steam every time the power plant is started up. Reliability was an important criterion in the procurement decision,” says Tero Saarno, Production Manager at Jyväskylän Voima. It is also important that the auxiliary boiler starts quickly when necessary.

A few challenges that arose at the very beginning were resolved in cooperation with the equipment manufacturer and the experts at Höyrytys, and since then the auxiliary boiler has worked well. The decisive criteria, on the basis of which Jyväskylän Voima selected the Höyrytys delivery package, were ease of use, zero emissions – no environmental permit needed to be applied for – and, of course, also the price.

“This was a fairly large-scale project. The level of requirements of a large energy utility was tough, for example in terms of quality and documentation,” sums up Höyrytys CEO Risto Nupponen. The Keljonlahti power plant has been in operation since 2010.
