Fortum has signed a new four-year agreement with Höyrytys Oy that ensures a rapid supply of backup heat in Uusimaa in the event of possible disruptions to heat distribution.
As a contract customer, Fortum can, with a single phone call to Höyrytys, order mobile backup heating equipment at any time of the day to exactly where backup energy is needed. Höyrytys connects the equipment to the district heating network and takes care of the functionality of the backup heat production.
Fortum has 10 MW of backup heat capacity available in Espoo, Kauniainen and Kirkkonummi. An urgent and critical need for the service can arise, for example, due to equipment or network damage during deep freezes in the winter season.
Höyrytys has secured Fortum’s backup heat supply in Uusimaa already since 2018. The cooperation began from a situation in which the backup energy equipment and experts offered by Höyrytys quickly and professionally filled the need for temporary energy. The content and scope of the agreement proved to be suitable, so now the agreement has been extended in a similar way as before.
“The backup energy service provides more security for the distribution of district heat and offers us more opportunities to maintain security of supply for the 250,000 heat users living in our distribution area in Espoo, Kauniainen and Kirkkonummi. With this cooperation, we are able to avoid long disruptions to heat distribution should extensive maintenance work be carried out on the network or if there is an unexpectedly large disruption in the distribution of district heat. The decision to continue cooperation with a professional and reliable partner was easy,” says Teemu Mäki, Senior Manager, DHC Distribution, at Fortum.
