Höyrytys is Pori Energia Oy’s long-term and extensive backup energy partner in securing steam and district heating production
Pori Energia Oy and Höyrytys Oy implement long-term and extensive backup energy cooperation related to securing steam and district heat production. The rapidly moveable backup heat and steam production capacity supplied by Höyrytys is available 24/7 throughout Pori Energia’s operating area. The regional backup energy agreement covers several different steam and district heating systems and enables extensive readiness for planned or unexpected disruptions in energy production or distribution.
Thanks to the cooperation, Pori Energia does not need to purchase or refurbish existing backup energy production equipment with few operating hours. Höyrytys is committed to supplying backup energy, i.e. heat or steam, for Pori Energia’s use during planned maintenance shutdowns or in the event of disruptions to energy production or distribution. For example, the delivery reliability of district heating is 99.9 percent at all times, so there is very little use for backup energy – it is more about preparing for rare situations.
With the help of the backup energy service, Pori Energia can in a controlled manner replace the low utilisation rate of backup production plants based on fossil energy, while maintaining the security of energy supply in all situations, explains Merja Heliniemi, Development Manager at Pori Energia.
A location-independent backup energy service is cost-effective, develops preparedness for different disruption scenarios, and frees up resources from backup capacity maintenance for core operations, such as development work related to renewable energy and new technologies.
