Höyrytys delivers auxiliary boiler equipment to Vantaa Energy’s waste-to-energy plant as a turnkey project

Höyrytys supplied auxiliary boiler equipment to Vantaa Energy’s large waste-to-energy plant in Långmosseberg as a turnkey package. The waste-to-energy plant was commissioned on a trial basis in spring 2014 and inaugurated in September 2014. In addition to a Clayton 5 MW steam generator, the delivery included a feedwater tank, a blow tank, a chemical pump and a 50-metre chimney. Meeting the high requirement level of such a large energy company was challenging, as was fitting the equipment in the relatively tight spaces available.

Vantaa Energy’s waste-to-energy power plant was commissioned for trial use in the spring and winter of 2014 using the auxiliary boiler supplied by Höyrytys, which uses natural gas/light fuel oil. In the future, the auxiliary boiler will be needed when the entire plant is down, for example due to maintenance or summer shutdowns. The deman usually lasts from a few hours to a few days at a time.

“Functional reliability and a quick start-up are really important features for equipment intended for this type of use. The Clayton steam generator meets these requirements well. Another advantage was that the equipment can fit in a fairly small space in relation to its power,” says Höyrytys CEO Risto Nupponen. For the customer, reliability means less stress in exceptional situations, while quick start-up means savings in fuel costs, since the auxiliary boiler does not have to be turned on for excessively long periods of time.
